Greater Vancouver Therapy Services for Health Care Professionals

Health care professionals in Vancouver often seek therapy in order to ensure that they are taking care of themselves in the context of the work they do taking care of their patients and clients.

Some of the aims of therapy with health care professionals include managing and preventing burnout, exploring compassion fatigue, and understanding the range of emotional burdens that emerge from their professional roles.

Therapy provides a safe space for introspection, allowing for suppressed or pent-up emotions to be explored openly.

Therapy can also help health care professionals explore boundaries and boundary-setting in their work and personal lives, which can sometimes be challenging for empathic workers who may experience over-identification with those they help.

Work-life balance can also be difficult for health care professionals, who may fall into unhealthy patterns in which balance may be lost in their lives.

Psychodynamic and psychoanalytic therapy focus on unconscious processes and patterns that lie beneath the surface, but nonetheless potentially inhibit a person’s well-being.

Psychodynamic therapy for health care professionals can help build lasting resilience, and reinforce emotional insight and purpose for those whose professional roles can be both satisfying but also demanding.

Integrative Therapy for Health Care Professionals

We offer an integrative approach to therapy tailored to the needs of the individual. In addition to psychodynamic therapy, clients will sometimes benefit from approaches based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

CBT involves identifying and challenging thinking traps, such as catastrophizing or all-or-nothing thinking. Another aspect of CBT is behavioural experiments or exposure, which help individuals face situations or tasks they may avoid due to fear or negative expectations. By gradually confronting these challenges in a supportive and controlled way, clients can develop greater resilience, emotional regulation, and confidence in various areas of life.
